NOMINATION PROCESS FOR FRIENDS OF DELAWARE TOWNSHIP
The Board of Trustees of FDT has created a process through which members of the public can nominate residents to be honored and participate in the process of identifying a suitable memorial or commendation.
The first step is to submit an application form which will include the name and contact information of the person nominating the resident (you can remain anonymous to the public, but FDT will need to your information for coordination purposes); the name of the proposed honoree; the type of memorial preferred, along with the preferred location for the memorial, and so forth. The application will set forth in detail the criteria for nomination.
Once a completed application is received by the Board of Trustees, it will be reviewed in detail and a decision by the Board, in its sole and absolute discretion, will be made regarding whether the proposed honoree meets the criteria for a memorial. A Resolution will be adopted by the Board approving the nomination and proposed memorial and authorizing presentation of the proposal to the Township Committee for permission to install a memorial or commendation in the requested public space. If the proposed public space is not acceptable to the Township Committee, the Board will request alternative locations that are acceptable to the Township Committee.
If the Township Committee approves the nomination and proposal, the applicant will be notified of the approval and advised of the donation goal required to install and maintain the requested memorial. Donations earmarked for the specific memorial will be accepted at that time and for a period of six (6) months thereafter. If the donation goal is not met within the six-month period, the Board will use its best efforts to work with the applicant to determine if an alternative memorial can be created using the funds collected.
